“Heritage Alive: Hong Kong Winning Projects of UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation” Exhibition
The UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation were established in 2000 to honour and encourage private efforts and public-private initiatives in successfully restoring structures of heritage value in the region. Since then, a total of 128 projects have received awards, among which 5 projects have been honoured with the Jury Commendation for Innovation. The winning projects have set technical and social benchmarks for conservation in the region. In addition, they have become catalysts for local preservation activity, inspiring other homeowners to take action to save their historic buildings. Spanning the past decade, the projects collectively showcase the best of heritage conservation in Asia and the Pacific.
In commemorating the tenth year of the UNESCO Heritage Awards, the Commissioner for Heritage’s Office of the Development Bureau, the Bangkok Office of the UNESCO, the Architectural Conservation Programme of Faculty of Architecture, The University of Hong Kong and the Antiquities and Monuments Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department co-organize this exhibition, which aims to provide an overview of the UNESCO Heritage Awards and to introduce the 12 winning projects from Hong Kong. Some building components, measured drawings, documents and models of the winning projects are also displayed. By showcasing the efforts and achievements of the government and local community groups, it is hoped that public’s awareness in heritage preservation could be aroused and enhanced.
