Central Market

As early as 1842, a market was already opened by the Chinese living in the Central and Sheung Wan districts. In 1895, the Central Market was rebuilt in western marble structure as shown in the photograph. It was reconstructed in Bauhaus style between 1938 and 1939, and became the most modern market at that time.
