Item 1   Hong Kong Traditional Chinese Architectural Information System
(Board Paper AAB/56/2005-06)

Presentation Session

  Mrs Ada Yau introduced the following major aspects as detailed in the paper:

  1. Background for development of the system;

  2. Progress of the design and development of the system; its conversion into a web-based programme to be accessed by the public on line by 2007;

  3. the electronic database archive of traditional Chinese architecture in Hong Kong covering temples, ancestral halls, study halls, shrines, village walls, etc.; and

  4. significance of the system in promoting public appreciation and enjoyment of Hong Kong's built heritage

Discussion Session

2.Major comments and questions raised by Members were as follows:
(a)whether consideration had been given to collaborate with Education and Manpower Bureau to publicise the system as an additional channel for civic education; and
(b)whether the system could line up with the publicity on archaeological and built heritage as a tactic to enhance civic and self-awareness;
3.Dr Louis Ng responded said that it was AMO's objective to explore further collaborations with academic or research institutes to extend the system to cover Western architectures and to convert this database information into interactive games design to promote heritage appreciation.

Item 2Any Other Business
4.The Chairman announced that the AAB had discussed at great length and come to a conclusion on preservation of relics at the former Police Married Quarters Site at Hollywood Road at the closed meeting this afternoon and a press release on the issue would be issued after the meeting.

5.There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
