The Western District and The Peak Route
Western District comprises three small districts namely Sai Ying Pun, Shek Tong Tsui and Kennedy Town. Among the earliest inhabitants of Western District were British troops, followed by Chinese refugees who fled to Hong Kong after 1850. With the construction of the Peak Tram in 1888, more wealthy people moved to live in the Peak area. The summer residence of the governor was also built there. The Western District and the Peak Route covers 25 historic buildings and sites.
