Welcome to the website of the Antiquities and Monuments Office

Heritage is a symbol of our cultural identity. It forms a part of our collective memories, and provides us with a sense of continuity and belonging. Hong Kong's built heritage and archaeological relics give us amazing insights into the territory's unique past, which is characterised by a sophisticated fusion of Eastern and Western cultures. Conservation of irreplaceable cultural heritage is in essence inheritance of our cultural treasures to be passed on to the future generations.

The Antiquities and Monuments Office is responsible for heritage conservation and education in Hong Kong. The Office is dedicated not only to the work of searching for, excavating, identifying and recording a wide range of items with historic interest, but also to the promotion of the message of heritage conservation by organising various programmes and activities.

Our heritage is a marvellous possession not only to be enjoyed but also to be treasured and conserved for future generations. To reach this goal, we depend on the support and contribution of each and every member of the community. The more we can do to identify and conserve our cultural heritage, the less likely it is to be destroyed.
