Opened to the public in 1864, the Botanic Garden was completed in 1871 and renamed the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens in 1975. Having served as a temporary Government House in 1841-1842, the garden was called “Bing Tau Fa Yuen” by some Chinese. Pavilion, Memorial Arch and bronze statue of King George VI are still preserved.
