HSBC Limited Head Office and Bank of China Building

Hong Kong’s first City Hall occupied the site where the eastern half of the HSBC Limited Head Office and the Bank of China Building now stand. Opened in 1869, this magnificent two-storey structure contained a museum, a public library and a theatre. The western portion was demolished in 1933 and the rest was pulled down in 1947. The new City Hall was built in 1962 on the waterfront. (A commemorative plaque can be found on Bank Street (temporarily removed))
